Domain Name Registration and Renewal

What is a Domain name and do you need one?

A domain name is what you type into your web browser to visit a web site. For example our domain name is seriouslycreative.ca.

Each web site on the internet is located on a computer (called a server) somewhere in the world and it has a unique ip address associated with it. Trying to remember ip addresses would be too difficult so the idea of domain names was created. You type in the name and your web browser (Internet Explorer, Fire Fox, Safari etc.) automatically takes you to that ip address.

We can help you choose the right domain name, register it and maintain it. Domain names require ongoing renewal and can be renewed for a minimum of 1 year. All  domain names are managed by a group named "Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers" (ICANN), you can find out more about how domain names work by visiting their web site at icann.org

Web Hosting

Exactly what is hosting? Do I need it? Why do the prices vary so much?

Web site hosting is a very misunderstood but completely necessary service for each web site. When you visit a web site you are actually connecting with another computer, called a server, which is providing you access to the files that make up the web site. Without hosting your web site on a web server no one will be able to view it.

One of the most important parts of having a web site. Businesses used to rely mostly on the search engines for traffic such as Google, MSN & Yahoo!. Times have changed and the Internet has exploded with content. Do a quick search on Google for "Golf" and you can see there are approx. 322 million results.
